Poker hand

Poker is a family of card games. The players depend on betting and cards in hand to win.

Luck is an element that always appear in card games. Each set of cards has a ranking, and the higher ranking will win. Let's find out about ranking categories.

Ranking categories of poker hand

The ranks in ascending order are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K and A.

The suits are ♣, , and ♠.

List of ranking categories decrease from high to low.

  • Straight Flush. It contains five cards of sequential rank, all of the same suit.

    Example: J♥, 10♥, 9♥, 8♥, 7♥.

  • Four of a Kind. It contains four cards of one rank.

    Example: 8♥, 8♦, 8♣, 8♠, K♥.

  • Full House. It contains three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank.

    Example: 5♥, 5♦, 5♣, Q♥, Q♦.

  • Flush. It contains five cards all of the same suit, not all of sequential rank.

    Example: A♥, J♥, 10♥, 6♥, 2♥.

  • Straight. It contains five cards of sequential rank, not all of the same suit.

    Example: 8♥, 7♦, 6♣, 5♠, 4♥.

  • Three of a Kind. It contains three cards of one rank.

    Example: 9♥, 9♦, 9♣, 10♠, 7♥.

  • Two Pairs. It contains two cards of one rank and two cards of another rank.

    Example: A♥, A♦, 10♥, 10♦, Q♣.

  • One Pair. It contains two cards of one rank.

    Example: K♥, K♦, A♣, J♠, 5♥.

  • High Card. It does not fall into any other ranking category.

    Example: A♥, Q♦, 10♣, 7♠, 3♥.

It seem the higher ranking, the higher rare level. We will make some calculation.

The rate of ranking categories

The rule accepts ace-to-five as lowest-straight.

We know that this problem was calculated by other source (example: "Poker probability" of Wikipedia). So we refer to the result.
